When we moved into this house, one of the things we were told was that the central AC did not work. (And verily, it didn't.) We bought the house anyhow, even with the borked AC (not having AC is not something you want, if you can help it, around here), because the price was very right, it was close to my parents, etc. I started putting money into savings in anticipation of the AC repair. I was mentally budgetting four digits.
Well, Jeff has been poking at it the last couple of days, and I don't know what he did or how he figured it out, but the man's a damn genius. (I'm in awe, since what I know about AC consists of "Cold air comes out"). It turns out, we needed something called a starting cap which was $14.99 at the local AC supply store. Jeff did something magical, and hey, we have cold air coming out. (And a good thing, too. It was 92 today. In the first week of April. In North Carolina. It's going to be a long, long summer).
