sleepy, ellie, annoyed

Dear airlines:

Lots and lots of people live in the middle of my state. Why, oh why, is it so freaking expensive to fly in and out of my nice medium sized regional airport?

Also, why is a non-stop flight twice as freaking expensive as a connecting flight? Is it really cheaper to route me through Texas or Minnesota and have me spend MORE time on a plane and use MORE fuel than to just let me fly from Charlotte to Seattle and back (it would be worth the hassle of getting back and forth to Charlotte for a non-stop flight). I've had flights from Seattle to Raleigh that connected through Charlotte (it's a 45 minute flight between the two. Connecting through Charlotte is DUMB. But there are no direct Seattle to Raleigh flights.)

This is starting to make no sense. That's because airlines reduce me to annoyed incoherency.

One of these days, this country will have uber-fast trains, and I will happily spend a day and a night on the train out to Seattle (I would Amtrak it now, but it takes 4 freaking days) and I'll never have to fly again.

I'm finally making Durkheim make some sense to my adled brain. Which is good, so that I can get this damned Durkheim outline shipped off to my professor (only Durkheim would take 448 pages to say what we're going to sum up in about 15) and get started on Marx and Weber, whom I promised to have to him by next Thursday, and then I can tackle Simmel (whom even my professor says is going to hurt) and then with that, I should be through the old dead white European males and then we can move on to the anthropologists and religious studies folks and other people that make sense. I'm not sure where my prof got the idea that I'm good at theory; I must fake it remarkably well, because I never feel like this stuff is making sense to me.

[eta]: Durkheim shipped off, yay!

Also, no matter what I do, my Pandora channels always seem to mellow out over time. Currently my Godsmack channel is playing something slow and sweet by BNL. I don't want to mark it thumbs-down, because I like BNL, but dude, they don't belong on my Godsmack channel.

Also, does anyone know how to unlock a pdf that has been locked? I have a nice pdf annotator program that allows me to highlight my pdfs, which rocks and saves me a lot of printing, but one of the pdfs for class this week is locked by the original authors. Googling turns up various software solutions, but I'd rather not pay $10 or more to unlock one pdf. Ideas?
