food, cooking

I checked out Small Batch Baking from the library on the recommendation of someone on LJ (seattlejo, perhaps?) because I have a really bad sweet tooth, and love baking, but often can't finish a batch of something sweet before it goes off, or shouldn't - Jeff doesn't eat sweet things very often, and having a couple dozen chocolate chip cookies around is just asking me for me to eat them all in three days. So I checked the book out of the library, and prompty didn't make anything out of it for weeks, until this past week, when sheeplass posted about baking out of it, and specifically about baking the Moist Fudgy Brownies. I came home Friday in a state of "must have chocolate NOW" (ahem) and so brownies were made.

What is it about the perversity of human nature that, as soon as I "have" to read a book, even for something fun and voluntary like the book club that I started, I'll read anything else but that book? I finally picked up this month's book today, two days before the (extended) deadline, and if I read read read between now and Monday, I should even get it finished on time. It's utterly fantastic, and I wish I'd started it a month ago when I first got out of the library. I need to get over this whole not wanting to start "assigned" books thing.
