We have bbq sauce issues around here. Jeff likes tomato based, nothing too vinegary. Val can't eat anything spicy at all, or anything terribly sweet. My go to sauce has, well, quite a lot of brown sugar, so we've been trying to find something else that works. And tonight, we hit a winner. I started with a recipe I found on the internet, but ended up having to add and subtract stuff even still. So, for future reference:
Melt 2 tbs or so of butter in a medium pot. Add in half an onion, grated. Add in 2 or 3 cloves of garlic. Cook until the onions are pretty tender. Add in about half a 6 oz can of tomato paste, disolved in enough water to make 1 cup. Add half a cup of vegetable or chicken broth. Add in a couple of glugs of worchestshire sauce, a teaspoon or so of honey, some dried basil, and a couple of glugs of cider vinegar. Salt and pepper to taste, and simmer until it's desired consistency.
Tasty.
