I made batch #3 of homemade yogurt tonight. The second batch did not set - I think I had dead starter. Much as I hate to admit it, it went down the drain - warm, lumpy milk is not what we're after here. This batch was done in the crockpot, same as the last batch, and turned out much better than the first batch. This time, I used plain Brown Cow cream top, along with the normal local milk, and the result is thicker than the first batch, with a much milder taste, and a much creamier appearance. It's still not as thick as commercial yogurt - milk powder may be the only trick for that. Yield was 5 pints - 80 ounces - for about $3 worth of raw materials.

My man has been experimenting with making yogurt, using the Alton Brown method. What is this crock pit method you speak of? He might be interested in playing with this. I, of course have no time :(

It's dead easy, and I've been terrifically pleased with the results. :)
