Jeff wanted a low key birthday this year, so that's what we did. After the bookstore run yesterday, I fed him and Hope lunch at Quizno's (his first request for the day) (good thing about living near my sisters: we can split food in restuarants. This is handy.) She took off for home, and Jeff got a nice long afternoon nap. Dinner was homemade caesar salad from the Moosewood cookbook, and dessert was chocolate cake (his second request for the day). I made up the devil's food cake recipe from the red Betty Crocker cookbook (there were recipes that I liked the sounds of better from How to Cook Everything, including a torte that took seven eggs, but the devil's food cake had the advantage of requiring things I already had in the kitchen). The cake turned out well, other than being more crumbly than I would have liked. It had a good flavor, however, and Jeff said it was great. I served it up with sweetened whipped cream and strawberries.

And that was Jeff's birthday. It was a good day. :)
