The trade-off we made, moving into this house with more space and a yard and washer connections and clothes lines and no walls that are shared with other people (have I mentioned how much happier I am living in a house again, over an apartment, even if it's not ours?) was not having a dishwasher. Which was fine; the dishwasher in the apartment was a piece of crap, and barely cleaned things anyhow. A lot of things had to be washed twice to get them clean, and things like the coffee mugs never really came clean.

Doing the dishes by hand may lose its charm eventually, but for now, I enjoy it. It's meditative, giving my hands something to do while my mind wanders. I look out the kitchen window and look at the birds and the honeysuckle and the neighbor's back yard and enjoy the fresh air. As long as you keep up with the dishes - and so far, we have been (except for the silverware, oy) - it's enjoyable.

I did Not Prime Time this year, which made me actually write something for the first time since Yuletide. It was fun! It was also a lot more low key…
