On a more cheerful note, I recently bought Ginger's iPod touch and love it. What iphone / iPod apps do you love?

You'll have to be more specific.

The ones I use most:
Trism
WeatherBug
WRAL
Now Playing
Urbanspoon
Echofon (though there are lots of twitter clients that are good, I just don't care to test them all)

Shazam (I don't use it much, but I think you'll love it)

Several more games depending on what you like.

Some website have decent iPhone versions. I use the Google Reader website now, most of the Google sites are good.

Yea, but I didn't want to be more specific. I wanted to see what people recommended whole heartedly off the tops of their heads. :)

I've pulled down Urbanspoon and Shazam, and I'll take a look at everything else, thankee. :)

PvZ on the iPad is, hands down, THE best game I have ever played. Seriously. (I actually gifted Miz Joyce the iPod Touch version this morning.)

Way back when, I picked up the computer game in Target and went "Eh, that's cute, but I don't really ever get into games" and put it back down.

The friend who was with me at the time totally missed the second part of that sentence and got it for me for my birthday. I was like "Eh, maybe." A couple of weeks later, I installed it and started playing. Next thing I knew, it was SIX HOURS LATER, and I have been playing it and recommending it to anyone who will hold still and listen to me about it ever since.

There's a Pandora app? oh dear. :)

There is and it is awesome.

I also like OurGroceries, which I believe has an android version as well (for Jeff) -- you could probably only sync when you have wireless, but I am pretty sure that you can see the lists and mark stuff off when you don't have internet. It's good for all kinds of lists you want to share between the two of you, either of you can add/remove stuff and it will sync when you have access.

I also use Yelp, Echofon, Facebook, the LJ app, Showtimes... With games I go through cycles, but I rarely pay anything for them so it's ok by me.

I also look at I Can Has Cheezburger, WootWatch, and use Mint for checking on our accounts and stuff when I'm away from the computer. How to Cook Everything has an app, which is pretty nice. PhoneFlicks if you use Netflix. LoseIt is a pretty good (free) app for tracking food/exercise.

Pandora, Yelp. I use Facebook and Twitbird apps a lot for checking things I'm not allowed to check at work. Also Sol Free, because I am a solitaire addict. The Amazon app is useful for looking up book prices on the go and randomly adding stuff to my wishlist.

I actually use surprisingly few apps, and the ones I like have already been mentioned, with one exception. If you have any interest in Spanish language, I like the "Spanish English Dictionary and Translator."

p.s. I love this thread. I just got a bunch of new apps. Yelp! I needed this yesterday. Hell, I need it three times a week.

You've got a great list going already from the others so I'll add in some that haven't been covered:
* Couch to 5k - excellent
* iFitness
* If you travel, download the app from the hotel or airline you use the most
* Gate Guru
* Flashlight
* DeutscheWelle

You'll be unsurprised to hear, given my predilections, that my favorite iPod app is Stanza. The Kindle app I do not like but I use it quite a lot (and you can occasionally get cool free books ffrom amazon). I like the concept of Instapaper very much though in practice scrolling makes my eyes hurt so I don't use it that much. I also like Pandora though I don't use it that much (I use it much more on my computer).

I am a cheapskate so these are all free apps.

I adore my iPod touch too!

Oh, I almost forgot! Mark Bittman's How to Cook Everything, which I know you also love, is apparently available as an app for $5 and is supposed to be, well, the book, but even more awesome. I haven't bought it yet but I am going to.
