[Cryptic thing] is lacking one piece of paperwork before it can go to [Cryptic Decision Makers]. That piece of paperwork was supposed to be in a packet sent to me a couple of weeks ago, but it wasn't (in fact, someone else's was!) so they're sending me a new one that should be here by tomorrow, which means that if I can fax it off tomorrow or Thursday morning, [Cryptic Decision Makers] should have all of their paperwork that day.

I am not confident that we'll hit our original deadline, but it might be mighty close (if [Cryptic Decision Makers] say yes; I have no idea how long that normally takes.)

I swear, this is one of the most stressful things I've ever dealt with.

Good luck on your [ Cryptic Project ].

Which I assume I can guess the nature of, due to our last IRL conversations. And if that's the case, [ Cryptic Congratulations ] too!

*giggles*

Any idea how long it typically takes from the time that the pounds of documentation goes to the Decision Makers to the time Final Decision is made?

If I'm guessing correctly, it took us about a day to get Preliminary Decision, and an additional 10 days to get Final Decision. That said, everyone involved thought that it was taking a few days longer than usual to get Final Decision, much of that was due to the boy not being a citizen.

But I'm only guessing and projecting, so you can ignore me as necessary. :)

Well, I don't truly remember, but as I was currently employed at the place where I was having mine done, I probably had somewhat of an inside track if not on the actual decision making, at least in tracking the info about such.

If it's what I think it is, it's often cited as one of the most stressful life events. :)

I have no idea what you're talking about, but I'm sorry it's so stressful, and hope it all turns out well!

STRESS, yes. Oh my gosh. I have found myself in the last couple of weeks a snarling mass of tenseness getting annoyed at perfectly innocent bystanders just because they are there. And I have no idea how people do this who don't have more-or-less flexible jobs. (Though I suspect the stressful part for me is not necessarily exactly the same as the stressful part for you.)

Took us a day for prelim decision, and something like a couple of weeks for more final decision. If I understand where you are in the cryptic process. Which I might be wrong about. And it took them another week to [undergo another cryptic process that is apparently necessary for the Decision Makers]. Which (if I understand the order in which you're doing things) they may be able to run in parallel for you. There's also an additional week, I've been told (we're not there yet in the process) before [final deadline] where MORE cryptic paperwork gets shuffled around between people who are not me and so I don't have to worry about it.

Is your deadline based on external (governmental) factors? Surely the Decision Makers would work with you to hit it, if so.

Wow, this comment made no sense :)

I should add that because of the order we did things in, we weren't in a huge hurry in the first half of the process. So warsop's guess of about a week-for-final-decision is probably closer to what they ought to be able to do. If they are competent :)

Um, now that you mention it, ditto all of this. Especially the bit about undergoing another cryptic process that is necessary for the Decision Makers. I remember that being obnoxious, now that you mention it. :-)

Initial Deadline is based on the standard [Preliminary Event
+ 30 days], but Hard Deadline is based on external governmental factors, yes.

Good luck! :) I think I've figured this one out, and if so, hang in there! (Well, even if not, hang in there. ^_^)

my spidey sense tells me that cryptic thing might involve purchasing real estate...
